That one time when the Proton Saga was sold in the US, sort of

Malaysians are familiar with Proton’s ties with Mitsubishi Motors, its former technical partner in the ‘80s and ‘90s. We all know that the first Proton Saga was based on the Mitsubishi Lancer Fiore. The relationship goes like this: Mitsubishi Lancer (Japan) = Mitsubi

Are bigger wheels good for your car? Or just all show but no go?

A simple way to give your car a fresh look is to fit it with a set of new wheels. It is the easiest form of “modification” and window shopping the right fit for your car can be fun. While the design/pattern of the wheel is subject to individual taste, one common “upgrade” is to go for wheels with a bigger diameter. Bigger wheels are aesthetically pleasing and give the car a more athletic look. Even manufacturers seem to agree to this and fit bigger wheels on range-topping variants. If the car wa

4 “uncool” car features that make life more convenient

As the automotive industry heads to an autonomous and electric future, a fair share of inventions of the past are losing presence in modern cars. The carburetor, the handbrake, and the ignition key switch are some to name. The friction of technology shift is something that can only be felt by those who have been accustomed to older technology. To younger generations, new technology is just how things have always been. While I claim to be a proponent of new technology, I find myself having more a

How did Tun M’s Proton Perdana ended up gathering dust in the UK?

During the long weekend, as Malaysians were celebrating the 63rd Merdeka Day, we were greeted by a couple of YouTube videos that showed a Proton Perdana gathering dust in an underground car park in the UK. It was later revealed that this Perdana actually belonged to former PM, Tun Mahathir Mohamad. This raised quite a bit of furore around the Malaysian interwebs but what exactly is going on and how did Tun M’s car get there? Save up to RM 50k on a recond car or go for Certified Pre-Owned car?

When it comes to shopping for a car, terms like reconditioned cars and certified pre-owned (CPO) cars get tossed around a fair bit. On paper, both CPO and reconditioned (recond) cars are very similar – both are cheaper than a new car, allowing the buyer to save some money. But that’s where the similarities end, as they are world’s apart once you look closer. Recond cars – good on paper, but buyers beware While it may seem tempting to save RM 40k to RM 50k on a recond car versus a brand-new car,

Running in your new car, still relevant?

Running in (or breaking in) your new car is a standard practice that has been recommended by car manufacturers for the longest time. The task is simple – drive the car until the designated mileage set for the first service (anything from 1,000-2,000 km), but do not exceed 3,000-4,000 rpm to let all the mechanical bits ‘set in’. However, automotive technology have advanced tremendously in the automotive world, with manufacturers utilizing better quality materials for the mechanical bits, all in t
