Closing strong in October, national carmaker Proton is inching closer to a fifth consecutive year of sales growth with just two months to go in 2023. The long-awaited 2023 Proton X90 finally launched over the weekend and the Malaysian Tiger’s first 3-row SUV and mild-hybrid (MHEV) offers a seating configuration that is not seen on its donor, the Geely Haoyue/Okavango. The X90 is available in both 6-seater and 7-seater variants though the former is only offered in the top-of-the-range Flagship variant. The Proton X90 appears to be inching closer to the production version as this recent spyshot by Nextrift shows off its ‘Infinite Weave’ grille and judging by the wiper marks on the front windshield, its orientation points to a right-hand drive (RHD) configuration. In case you missed it, Geely recently launched the Geely Hao Yue 7-seater SUV in the Philippines. As like all Geely models, the Hao Yue was given a “global” name, so it is known as the Geely Okavango in the Philippines. This has raised a few eyebrows in the Malaysian Tamil-speaking community as Gokul from Bigwheel explained that the term “Okavango” has a different (and very vulgar) meaning in Tamil.
