Following the debut of the W214 2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan, the E-Class Estate counterpart (S214) has been revealed. The new S214 model shares many features with its sedan sibling while providing enhanced versatility from its wagon body.
The S214 E-Class Estate boasts larger dimensions compared to its predecessor. It measures 4,949 mm in length (+4 mm), 1,880 mm in width (+28 mm), and 1,469 mm in height (+1 mm), with a wheelbase of 2,961 mm (+22 mm).
From a styling perspective, the E-Class Estate closely resembles its sedan counterpart. The front fascia is reminiscent of the Mercedes-EQ models, featuring a black panel-like surface that connects the grille with the headlamps.
Thereβs also an optional illuminated grille for all trims, and wheel sizes ranging up to 21 inches contribute to the overall aesthetic of the vehicle.
Minimum boot space has slightly decreased compared to its predecessor, with non-plug-in hybrid variants providing 615 litres of space (-25 litres), while plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants offer 460 litres (-20 litres) when the 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench is in its default position.
However, the maximum boot space has increased, with combustion engine variants providing up to 1,830 litres (+10 litres) and plug-in hybrids offering 1,675 litres (+15 litres) when the rear bench is folded down.
The S214 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate will be available in two petrol variants at market launch. The E200 model is equipped with a M254 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 204 PS and 320 Nm. This engine is accompanied by a 48-volt mild hybrid system, incorporating an integrated starter-generator (ISG) that provides an additional e-boost of 23 PS and 205 Nm.
For those seeking an eco-friendlier option, the E300e plug-in hybrid combines the M254 engine with a more powerful electric motor, generating 129 PS and 440 Nm. The total system output reaches 313 PS and 550 Nm. The electric motor is linked to a 25.4-kWh battery pack positioned behind the rear seats, providing a claimed all-electric range of up to 113 km.
All E-Class Estate variants feature a 9-speed automatic transmission as standard with the electric motor, power electronics, and transmission cooler integrated into the transmission. Mercedes-Benz has plans to introduce inline-six engines, some of which will be electrified, to the E-Class Estate lineup in the future.
