The 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Class facelift has been revealed. This facelift exercise maintains its iconic exterior and brings it up to date with the current Mercedes-Benz lineup in terms of technology, particularly the interior.
Exterior wise, there are subtly redesigned front and rear bumpers, along with a new reversing camera placement above the license plate holder, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.
There are improved aerodynamics and acoustic comfort through new A-pillar cladding, a roof spoiler lip, and enhanced insulation materials.
Standard features include aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels and LED high-performance headlights, with the addition of a new paint colour, sodalite blue metallic, and varied wheel designs from 18 to 20 inches for the G500 and up to 22 inches for the G63.
Inside, the interior remains familiar with subtle but noticeable updates. The redesigned off-road control centre provides quick access to features like the Offroad Cockpit alongside the controls for the three mechanical differential locks.
The new steering wheel with capacitive buttons, touchpad, and removal of the IWC analogue clock, brings it up to date with the current Mercedes-Benz lineup.
It gets the latest MBUX infotainment system with dual 12.3-inch widescreen displays, which is now standard across all variants and offers wireless smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation overlays graphical navigation onto live images for added convenience.
Optional comfort features include temperature-controlled cupholders, wireless charging, and MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment system. And for the first time in a G-Class, thereβs keyless entry with the introduction of Keyless-Go.
The engine lineup features fully electrified options, including a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine for the G500 (replacing the M176 4.0-litre V8) and the AMG M177 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine for the Mercedes-AMG G63.
Both variants offer increased performance and reduced fuel consumption, aided by integrated starter-generators (ISG) and 48-volt systems that provides an additional 20 PS of output and 200 Nm of torque for brief periods.
The G500βs 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with twin turbochargers makes 449 PS and 560 Nm, while the G63 delivers 585 PS and 850 Nm. Both use a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Adaptive adjustable damping comes standard, while the G63βs optional AMG Active Ride Control has active, hydraulic roll stabilisation and adaptive adjustable damping roll stabilisation that replaces traditional anti-roll bars. It is available as either an individual option or as part of the AMG Offroad Package Pro and the AMG Performance Package.
In terms of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), available for the first time in the G-Class are Active Steering Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and route-based speed adaptation. The inclusion of Active Steering Assist essentially allows for Level 2 semi-autonomous driving when used with the Distronic Active Distance Assist.
