Porsche Engineering has released further details of its Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform which will underpin the second-generation 2024 Porsche Macan, and up to 4 more Porsche EV models if design concepts are anything to go by.

Developed in tandem by Audi and Porsche, the PPE platform will give Porsche the ability ‘to launch high-volume models with high technical standards at profit, thus taking the electrification of its portfolio another step further’.

The Porsche Ludmilla concept from last year, served as a precursor showcasing the PPE’s platform concept and powertrain, which is said to develop 612 PS and maximum torque of more than 1,000 Nm in its most powerful version.

The first Porsche based on the PPE will be the all-electric 2024 Macan, and will offer Porsche’s 800V electrical architecture, latest-generation electric motors, an advanced 100 kWh battery and charge management systems that should allow for DC fast charging of up to 270 kW.

But that may not be all, as detailed by Porsche Engineering, the highly modular and flexible PPE could be adapted to produce up to four other models.

By implementing modifications to the front firewall structure and rear floor – the PPE has been designed to underpin a wide range of body styles and sizes, with wheelbases ranging between 2,810 mm and 2,990 mm.

The former according to Porsche Engineering, is ideal for a small SUV and can be sized up to underpin large SUVs and even MPVs. 

Of course, we don’t have to hold our breath for a Porsche MPV, however, Porsche has long touted a ‘baby-Taycan’ and more recently also announced plans for EV offshoot of the Cayenne and three-row large EV SUV, which could sum up three other models could be underpinned by the PPE platform.

Incidentally, Audi’s first model that will be underpinned by the PPE platform is the Audi A6 E-Tron, which draws parallels, in terms of size, to the aforementioned baby-Taycan.

The PPE platform makes it possible to implement rear-wheel, all-wheel, or front-wheel drive and offers lots of leeway when it comes to the wheelbase, track width, and ground clearance, further paving the way for different powertrain variants for future PPE platform products.

Porsche is tight-lipped on when the Macan EV will make its global debut, but at a recent international media event, said it could happen in late-2023 or early-2024, with customer deliveries starting soon after.
