Mazda has always been a passionate car manufacturer. For several years, they devoted themselves to running a hard-core brand called Mazdaspeed. 

In 1983, Mazdaspeed Co., Ltd. was formally established. In 2003, Mazda launched a special version of Mazad Speed Protegé MP3 with a Garrett T 25 Callaway turbine and a horsepower of 170Ps. A year later, Mazda launched Mazdaspeed MX-5 in the North American market. In 2006, Mazdaspeed 6 was released globally, and the perfect combination of 4WD + 278PS really made the car fans get addicted! 

But currently, as for the new successor of Mazda3, it is still in a state of discontinuity. Although there's news broadcasting that launch of a new car for a long time, it has not been seen yet.

Mazda's head of global development and product planning, Hiroyuki Matsumoto has recently disclosed during an interview that Mazda has no plan to develop an engine for the Mazda 3 which is available for specific power demands.

When the signal came out, there is a great uproar among the public. Many fans have been looking forward that Mazda could launch a new model to challenge VW Golf GTI, Honda Civic Type R, and others in the hot-hatch segment, but they are disappointed by the response.

In fact, Mazda's decision is reasonable enough. Compared with the mainstream car manufacturers, Mazda is on a smaller scale, which means one practical goal can be fulfilled at a time.

Dave Coleman, an engineer at Mazda, said that at present, the team doesn't have the prerequisites for developing performance vehicles.
