After its global debut in Japan in November 2022, the all-new C28 generation Nissan Serena is now in Singapore, debuting ahead of Hong Kong and Malaysia – the two other key markets of the Serena in Asia.
No prices have been announced yet, so this is just a preview in the island state, at the 2024 Singapore Motor Show. The event is organized by the Motor Traders Association of Singapore. Tan Chong Motor Sales Pte. Ltd., the distributor of Nissan, and its sister company Motor Image Enterprises Pte Ltd, the distributor of Subaru, are key participants. The latter is the association’s president.
Singapore’s Tan Chong Motor is a completely separate, Hong Kong-listed organization that is run independent of Malaysia’s Bursa-listed Tan Chong Motor.
As before, the Singapore market Serena is a series-hybrid, where the petrol engine doesn’t drive the wheels but the electric generator. It’s essentially an electric car that makes its own electricity on the move, without the need for plugged-in charging.
However, in this new C28 generation model, the engine is now a bigger, 1.4-litre capacity 3-cylinder HR14DDe unit. The previous C27 model uses a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder (HR12De). The wheels are driven by a 163 PS / 315 Nm EM57 motor. If you have to know, the petrol engine makes 98 PS / 123 Nm but these figures don’t mean much because the engine doesn’t turn the wheels, but runs at one of two fixed engine speeds to charge the high voltage battery.
Claimed fuel consumption is between 18.4 km/litre to 20.6 km/litre (depending on variant), or 4.9-litre/100 km to 5.4-litre/100 km, under the WLTC driving cycle.
Two variants are available, a 7- or 8-seater. The 7-seater variants will have a 2-2-3 seating configuration, with the middle row seats being individual ones, while the 8-seater variants are 2-3-3, with the middle seat in the middle row doubling as an arm rest, when not in use.
In Malaysia, the C27 generation Nissan Serena sells for between RM 149,888 to RM 163,888. The (facelift) model was launched in July 2022, locally assembled (CKD) in Serendah.
