Porsche has opened the first of its Porsche Charging Lounges in Bingen am Rhein, Germany, the company's state-of-the-art charging facility tailored to meet the charging needs of Porsche drivers during long journeys in the region.

Strategically located near busy routes with high traffic flow, these lounges are open 24/7 and offer fast and efficient charging for all-electric and plug-in hybrid models from Porsche.

The powerful chargers, manufactured by Alpitronic, currently provide a maximum of 300 kW but are upgradable to even higher speeds, aiming to reach 400 kW capacity by next year. Moreover, the charging processes exclusively use power from certified renewable sources.

Porsche Charging Lounges are integrated into the Porsche Charging Service and can be easily accessed through the navigation system. Porsche handles central billing, maintaining a competitive charging price of 33 cents/ kWh (~RM 1.66),similar to other fast-charging stations within the regional Porsche network.

Besides fast charging, Porsche Charging Lounges are also barrier-less, requiring a Porsche ID, linked to the vehicle, and can be facilitated through the MyPorsche app, Porsche Charging Card, or a QR code.

Apart from their exceptional charging capabilities, these exclusive lounges feature a unique design. The pilot site in Bingen offers a glimpse of the lounge's future design, boasting a slim roof that appears to float, seamlessly connecting the charging points with the building. The lounge's glazing from floor to ceiling creates a pleasant indoor-outdoor transition, complemented by bright colours and light wood.

Porsche Charging Lounges, are also the world's first lounges that are heated and air-conditioned by a fossil fuel-free heat pump. The facility partly relies on electricity generated from solar cells on the roof. To optimize power consumption, the lounge uses digital building management, automatically adjusting lighting based on guest presence.

To ensure a delightful visit, the lounges offer modern sanitary facilities, a variety of soft drinks and snacks, and multiple payment options, including debit and credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Guests can also enjoy analogue and digital media, enjoy high-speed WiFi or even use a smart mirror to workout before continuing their journey.

Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG said, "Porsche has mapped out an ambitious path towards electrification. By 2030 we want over 80 per cent of the cars that we deliver to be all-electric. This ambitious ramp-up requires a high-performance and dense fast-charging network."

"The exclusive Porsche Charging Lounges are making an important contribution to this. They are a barrier-free, sustainable and state-of-the-art addition to the Ionity network,” he added.

In Europe, Porsche's charging infrastructure extends beyond the lounges, with the Porsche Charging Service granting access to over 436,000 charging points across the region.

Additionally, more than 1,000 high-performance charging points have been set up at Porsche dealerships worldwide, with further expansion planned. Porsche Destination Charging offers more than 5,000 charging points at luxury destinations popular among Porsche customers, with more being added by 2025.

Furthermore, the company is upgrading existing stations to provide 22 kW AC charging, up from 11 kW to speed up charge times.
