WTC Automotif (WTCA), a subsidiary of the Tan Chong Group and the authorized distributor for GAC cars in Malaysia, has previewed the GAC Emkoo. Since this is a preview, detailed specifications and prices have yet to be announced.

The GAC Emkoo is a C-segment SUV that goes against the likes of the Honda CR-V, Proton X70. It’s underpinned by the GPMA (GAC Global Platform Modular Architecture) platform that also found in the GAC GS3 Emzoom.

Exterior wise, it spots a borderless V-shape grille flanked by the "Eyes of Revelation" LED headlamps. Meanwhile, the taillamps are dubbed “Lightsabers.” The sharp body belt line, resembling an arrow ready to shoot, creates a distinctive profile.

In China, the Emkoo is available with a few powertrains including a turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine (177 PS/270 Nm), a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine (252 PS/499 Nm), and a 2.0-litre hybrid (Combined: 238 PS) system which is co-developed with Toyota.

The interior of the GAC EMKOO reveals a fully digital instrument cluster with a semi-floating appearance, while a massive 14.6-inch infotainment display takes centre stage, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset.

Further details are currently limited. WTCA did not provide a timeline for the GAC Emkoo’s arrival in Malaysia. Considering that production for the GAC GS3 Emzoom is scheduled to begin in April 2024, with sales anticipated to start in mid-2024, it is logical to anticipate the arrival of the Emkoo sometime in the second half of 2024.
