Genesis flips the bird to the rest of the luxury carmakers with the G90 that drips style

Genesis flips the bird to the rest of the luxury carmakers with the G90 that drips style 01

Breaking a stronghold on the luxury segment isn’t going to be a waft along in your air-ride suspended limo. Toyota didn’t have it easy with Lexus and neither did Hyundai with Genesis. However, much like the latter, Genesis is now an established marque on its own and continues to redefine luxury; the latest definition being the G90 limousine.

You’ll find it as an example of “luxury” in the dictionary… above a Mercedes-Benz S-Class since it’s done in alphabetical order.

The new 2023 G90 has been redesigned and even the blind will be able to tell this is luxury… although you might not know who made it.

Thus far it’s all images and boy are they making blood flow into a singular appendage. The new G90 is wholly committed to Genesis’ new design language that debuted with the GV80.

You’ll find the twin-slat headlights, five-sided grille and the signature body arch that gently creases towards the rear.

The headlights actually wrap around the entire front end before the wheel arch breaks it up but the design lines continue as stylised elements that end at the edge of the front doors. They also serve as the cutline for the hood, which is why you can’t see the hood line for the clamshell.

Of course, the intricate detailed wheels are a must and look right out of a Radi8 Wheels catalogue. Technical and angular, they lift the design language to the next level as luxury carmakers tend to play it safe with wheels for some reason.

What stands out about the G90 is how all the design elements blend together so seamlessly that none overshadows the other. While the jury is still out on that grille, it never appears obnoxiously overboard as the smooth surfaces, subtle curves and subdued detailing takes the shine off with just the right amount of overlap.

That strong, singular shoulder line flowing all the way to the rear dips right at the end to lend the glasshouse a distinct appearance of being larger in the rear; essential for a limo.

The taillight is a double-element design as well, with a strip between the sides of the main lights and a secondary thin line right below the entire design.

While the white model pictured here is a short-wheelbase trim, Genesis will obviously sell a long-wheelbase model (+19 cm) and that’s the purple car in the photos.

No powertrain details as of yet but that’s to be expected. Same goes for the interior but seeing the GV80, rest assured no balls will be dropped. It will be a proper luxo-barge.

“Better late than never.” Some despise it, others begrudgingly agree with it but he swears by it… much to the chagrin of everyone around him. That unfortunately stems from all of his project cars not running most of the time, which in turn is testament to his questionable decision-making skills in life. A culmination of many wrongs fortunately making a right; much like his project cars on the rare occasions they run, he’s still trying to figure out if another project car is the way to go.
