Great Wall Motor (GWM) Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd has just announced bookings for the GWM Cannon are now open for booking in the country. This only consists of the first batch of 66 units that are fully imported (CBU) from China.
While there were two variants on display when GWM previewed the Chinese rival to the likes of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux at the 2023 Malaysia Auto Show in May – the workhorse P11 and the more lifestyle-oriented P12, it is still not disclosed what the variant split is in the initial batch.
Both variants that were shown at the auto show and the units for the media preview feature the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel unit (163 PS/400 Nm) and is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission produced by ZF.
The pick-up truck comes with an intelligent four-wheel drive (4WD) system and four driving modes.
As for the features, they include a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electronic parking brake (EPB) with auto-hold, and rear air vents.
Safety-wise, the Cannon is equipped with 7 airbags and Level 2 semi-autonomous ADAS which include:
Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
Lane-keeping assist (LKA)
Blind-spot detection (BSD)
The Cannon has recently achieved a significant milestone as the 500,000th unit has rolled off from the assembly line in China. The Cannon which was introduced in China as the GWM Poer – short for Powerful, Off-road, Enjoyable, Reliable – has already made its mark in over 50 countries and regions worldwide since its launch in 2019.
Official prices for the GWM Cannon will only be announced later though some dealers have posted the Cannon P12 to be priced from RM 127,800 on-the-road without insurance.
