Kia has launched the 2024 Kia EV9 SUV in Thailand. This flagship 6-seater EV SUV is the first full-electric model offered in the Kingdom, available in two variants at the following prices:
EV9 Earth Long Range: THB 3,499,000 (RM 462k)
EV9 GT-Line AWD: THB 3,899,000 (RM 515k)
Built on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Kia EV9 features a 99.8 kWh battery for both variants. The EV9 Earth Long Range model employs a single rear-axle electric motor that delivers 203 PS and 350 Nm of torque, achieving a 0-to-100 km/h time of 9.4 seconds.
Meanwhile, the EV9 GT-Line AWD variant is powered by two electric motors, developing a total output of 389 PS and 700 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0-to-100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.
Kia claims a maximum driving range of 680 km for the EV9 Earth Long Range variant and 647 km for the GT-Line AWD variant. Charging speeds are capped at 350 kW for DC charging and 10.5 kW for AC charging via a three-phase outlet. At a sufficiently fast DC charger, the EV9 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes.
Inside, the EV9 notably features a ‘Panoramic Wide Display’, which combines three screens – a 12.3-inch cluster display, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 5.3-inch climate control segment display for vehicle controls. Drivers can also customise the infotainment interface in a widget-style manner based on their preferences.
Additionally, the Kia EV9 offers two six-seater configurations for the 2nd row. The Earth variant features the innovative 'swivel seats' that can rotate 180 degrees to face rear passengers, while the GT-Line AWD grade comes equipped with ventilated Ottoman-style seats.
In terms of safety, the EV9 includes a full suite of ADAS assistance systems across both variants, including Kia’s Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance (RCCA), and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA), among others.
Both variants come with a 7-year maintenance and warranty package and an 8-year warranty for the high-voltage battery. Kia Thailand expects deliveries for the EV9 GT-Line AWD to start in April, while EV9 Earth Long Range variant deliveries will begin in June 2024.
Despite previous sightings of the Kia EV9 on Malaysian roads, there is no word yet on whether it will be launched here, for now at least. At the time we reported that the locally sighted EV9 was not owned by Kia distributor Bermaz (Dinamikjaya Motors), but rather an evaluation unit owned by Kia Motors Asia Pacific (Kia APAC) which is also headquartered in Kuala Lumpur.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
