Over the weekend, Mazda announced that they will be cooperating with Changan to develop electrified models, starting with the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid.
The Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is set to make its debut tomorrow at the Shanghai Auto Show and Mazda will debut two more new energy vehicles (NEVs) by the end of 2024 and 2025. These models will be co-developed with Mazdaβs partner in China, Changan Motors.
Earlier this year, Mazda transferred its Chinese business strategy function from its headquarters in Hiroshima to the "Mazda (China) Enterprise Management Co., Ltd." located in Shanghai, which is 100% owned by Mazda. This move will further promote the rapid development and implementation of Mazda's market strategy in China.
Apart from the CX-50 Hybrid, Changan Mazda is also set to display the soon-to-be launched petrol-powered CX-50 at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show.
The petrol-powered CX-50 will get the choice of a naturally aspirated SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre or a 2.5-litre petrol engine, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Even before Changan Mazda has launched the CX-50 in China, the company has received more than 13,000 pre-orders for its newest SUV.
Whether or not the CX-50 Hybrid will be offered outside of China remains to be seen.
