Currently, BYD SD Motors Malaysia (the distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia) has only the BYD Atto 3 in their line-up but we can expect it to be more populated by 2023. So, here are the EVs from BYD that you can look forward to.

BYD e6

The BYD e6’s arrival was confirmed alongside the Atto 3 during the announcement of BYD’s distributor for Malaysia, which suggests we can expect its launch to be sooner than later.

The BYD e6 has a front-mounted electric motor with a 95 PS/180 Nm. Juiced up by a 71.7 kWh battery, the BYD e6 has a WLTP range of up to 522 km. The onboard charger allows up 40 kW AC charging while DC charging is up to 60 kW.

Singapore has the BYD e6 officially on sale in our region, but its COE-influenced pricing makes it difficult to draw a comparison. In Thailand, the e6 is priced at THB 1,390,000 (around RM 170k).

In Australia, the e6 is reportedly priced at just under AUD 40,000 (around RM 120k), which is cheaper than the Atto 3.

BYD Seal

At the launch of the BYD Atto 3, BYD SD Motors previewed the BYD Seal. The company is aiming for a Q4 2023 launch here.

In China, there are four variants offered with power outputs that range from 201 PS to 523 PS. Below is a quick glance:

• Standard Range, RWD Elite/Premium – 550 km range, 201 PS motor
• Long Range RWD – 700 km range, 312 PS motor
• Long Range AWD Performance – 650 km range, 523 PS motor

The AWD Performance variant is claimed to go from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Battery capacity is 61.44 kWh in the Standard Range variants while Long Range versions get an 82.56 kWh battery. Both are using BYD’s proprietary LFP Blade Battery.

Prices in China start from CNY 212,800 (∼RM 138k) to CNY 289,800 (∼ RM 188k).

BYD Dolphin

Previewed alongside the BYD Seal was the BYD Dolphin, which is also aimed for a Q4 2023 launch in Malaysia.

The Dolphin is a B-segment electric hatchback that is similarly sized to a Toyota Yaris. It’s powered by a 70 kW (95 PS) motor or 130 kW (177 PS) motor in China and has a range of between 300 to 400 km (NEDC) depending on the battery size.

The higher-powered 177 PS/290 Nm electric motor is fed by a 44.9 kWh Blade battery pack, giving the Dolphin a range of 401 km on the NEDC cycle.

The less powerful 95 PS/180 Nm motor uses the same battery, although range is only improved by a smidge at 405 km.

Prices in China start from CNY 116,800 (∼RM 76k) to CNY 136,800 (∼RM 89k).

BYD Han

The BYD Han is the company’s flagship EV sedan, positioned above the BYD Seal. It’s the first model to be equipped with the Blade Battery when it was announced in 2020.

It’s available with two powertrain configurations - front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The FWD variant makes 245 PS/350 Nm while the AWD version makes 517 PS/700 Nm.

Sitting under the floor is a 85.4 kWh LFP Blade Battery that gives a China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of up to 715 km in the FWD variant and 610 km in the AWD variant. AC charging is rated at 7 kW while DC fast charging is up to 120 kW.

In China, the BYD Han was refreshed in 2022 with updated prices starting from CNY 269,800 (∼RM 175k) to CNY 329,800 (∼RM 215k).

BYD Tang

The BYD Tang is a 7-seater SUV that was updated in China in 2022 with a revised front fascia. Two battery sizes are available – 90.3 kWh and 108.8 kWh.

CLTC range is 600 km for the FWD variant with 228 PS/350 Nm and the smaller 90.3 kWh battery, while the larger 108.8 kWh battery allows up to 730 km. The more powerful AWD variant produces 517 PS/700 Nm and gets the larger battery with a CLTC range of up to 635 km.

Prices in China start from CNY 280,000 (∼RM 182k) to CNY 350,000 (∼RM 228k).
