Subaru announced today that it has developed EyeSight for manual transmission cars. The feature will be introduced on the Japanese market Subaru BRZ by the end of this year, before introducing it in other Subaru models.

EyeSight is Subaru’s signature stereo camera-only Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It’s a world’s first technology, dating back to 2008, but was previously only available for automatic transmission Subaru models.

Today’s EyeSight’s autonomous emergency braking (AEB) can detect not only cars, but also pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles.

The EyeSight feature for the 2024 model year Subaru BRZ with a 6-speed manual transmission is an extension of the development work done for the autotragic automatic transmission variant. It is capable of pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and rear sonar warning.

To date, Subaru has sold more than 5.5 million EyeSight-equipped cars.

Closer to home, TC Subaru, the official distributor of Subaru cars in Malaysia, equips all its automatic transmission models, including the BRZ, with EyeSight.

The cheapest EyeSight-equipped model in Malaysia is the Subaru XV 2.0i-S. Prices start from RM 149,788.

To be clear, Subaru is not the first to introduce such features on manual transmission cars. The Toyota GR Yaris and Honda Civic Type R are equipped with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) and Honda Sensing respectively.
