Proton’s export numbers are not big, just several thousand cars a year (3,018 units in 2021). Destination countries are typically very small developing countries.
Last month, Proton added South Africa to its list of export destinations, which now number around 7 countries – Nepal, South Africa, Egypt, and Brunei imports finished (CBU) cars while Pakistan, Kenya, Bangladesh locally-assembles (CKD) them. Sri Lanka will join the list later this year.

As of May 2022, Pakistan is Proton’s biggest export market, with a cumulative sales of 1,350 cars sold this year.
Egypt and Brunei trail far behind, with 172 and 158 units respectively.
At its peak in 2010 (financial year), Proton exported around 22,000 cars (including CKD kits), to markets including the UK and Australia. The brand has since been pushed out from these markets by Korean and Chinese makes.
