Proton has opened its own in-house window tint installation centre, in partnership with a window tinting specialist. Located in Tanjung Malim, the Exclusive Proton Accessories Tint Centre has a 5,000 cars per month capacity.

All window tint films installed at the facility are covered by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Installing window tint films, though common, is not always a straightforward process, depending on the vehicle model. Sometimes, panels will need to be removed, water will be sprayed onto the glass, and if the installer is not careful, it may lead to secondary damage.

Many modern cars have electronic control units installed behind the dashboard, and manufacturers never designed these parts to be resistant against water. At the same time, it is necessary to wet the windscreen before installing a tinting film. Likewise for the rear parcel shelf, where audio-related electronics like amplifiers may sometimes be installed.

“There are many inherent advantages to having tints fitted by the OEM as opposed to being done after a vehicle has been delivered. These include a better precision fit and finish using pre-cut dies, stringent quality assurance measures, compliance to JPJ regulations and the elimination of secondary defects commonly associated with after-market installations,” said Proton.

Security tinting was introduced as a standard fit accessory for Flagship and Premium variants of the Proton X90 when it was launched on 7 May 2023. This was repeated with the Proton S70 when it was launched in November last year with both the Flagship and Flagship X variants receiving security tinting as part of the standard accessories package.

Proton adds that the option will be expanded to other models in the near future.
