Even though Proton’s X series SUVs have reinvigorated P1’s image, it seems most Malaysians are keen on getting its sedans. Proton’s entire 3 sedan line-up filled the podium as the best-selling models for P1 in February 2024.

Though the Saga remains Proton’s best-selling model with more than 6,000 units sold for the fifth consecutive month, it’s the carmaker’s newest sedan in 7 years that garnered more interest. February saw 2,314 units of the Proton S70 sold as it became Proton’s second best-selling model for the month.

Sales increased by 60.5% compared to last month as it maintains its position as the most popular C-segment sedan in Malaysia.

Proton’s second best-selling model every month has often been the Proton X50 but it slipped to fourth place (1,816 units) behind the Saga, S70, and Persona (1,859 units).

Both the Persona and S70 were also the best-selling B- and C-segment sedans respectively in February. Despite being in the C-segment, the S70’s pricing is closer to non-local B-segment sedans like the Toyota Vios and Honda City.

It seems the price advantage given to the S70 has affected sales of the City and Vios and pushed the Persona to top its segment for the first time in a while. Honda and Toyota have not revealed their sales figures for February 2024 as this article goes live.

Meanwhile, the Proton X50 not only slipped behind P1’s sedan line-up in sales, but it was also the second best-selling B-segment SUV in February. Even so, the X50 is Proton’s second best-selling model in terms of cumulative figures for 2024 with 3,818 units sold thus far.

The Proton Saga maintains its position as the best-selling Proton of 2024 with a total of 12,341 units. In third is the S70 with 3,756 units while the Persona saw 3,705 units sold in the first two months of the year.

The Proton S70 has been well received by buyers with its turbocharged 1.5-litre engine (150 PS/226 Nm), 7-speed DCT gearbox, comprehensive safety features, and C-segment dimensions for the price of a non-local B-segment. Proton also announced that the sedan will be exported to Brunei as its first overseas destination.

• S70 Premium – RM 79,800
• S70 Flagship – RM 89,800
• S70 Flagship X – RM 94,800
