Proton continues sales growth in Feb 2024 - Persona outsold City and Vios that month

Proton just announced that 13,602 units of its models were sold in February 2024 both domestically and in export markets. As such, a total of 26,484 Protons were sold in the first two months of 2024, an increase of 3% over the same period in 2023.

The Proton Saga remains the best-selling P1 car of the month with 6,212 units sold, making February 2024 the fifth consecutive month the entry model sold more than 6,000 units. 2024 will be the 39th year for the nameplate that kickstarted the Malaysian automotive industry.

The second best-selling Proton model in February is the Proton S70 which continues to lead the C-segment market. 2,314 units were sold that month, an increase of 60.5% from January with production for the turbocharged 1.5-litre sedan ramping up.

The S70 is expected to continue its stellar sales performance in Malaysia while Brunei is announced as the first export destination for Proton’s newest sedan.

Besides the S70, three other Proton models also led their respective segments in February. With 374 units sold, the Proton X90 is Malaysia’s best-selling D-segment SUV while the discontinued Proton Exora maintains its crown in the C-segment MPV market. With a total of over 194,250 units, the Exora is also the most successful C-segment MPV ever sold in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the Proton Persona led the B-segment sedan market with 1,859 units sold in February, ahead of the Toyota Vios and Honda City. Its hatchback twin, the Proton Iriz was the fourth best-selling B-segment hatchback in the same month with 543 units sold.

Elsewhere, Proton’s other X series SUV models, the Proton X50 and Proton X70 sold 1,816 units and 445 units respectively. Not only did the X50 lose out to Proton’s entire sedan lineup in February sales, but it was also Malaysia’s second best-selling B-segment SUV that month.

As for overseas markets, export sales grew 223% to 346 units in February compared to the month before. In total, 453 Protons were exported overseas in 2024 thus far.

Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar said, “Proton has continued its positive trajectory in the second month of the year with sales underpinned by consistent domestic demand as well as increasing export growth.”
