In its latest scoop, the facelifted 2024 Proton X70 has been spotted once again on Malaysian roads, this time providing an even clearer view of its refreshed design.
Images shared by local automotive sleuth The Ajerul show the clearest images yet of the new headlight design and DRL signature, resembling the Chinese market Geely Boyue Pro's headlights but incorporating the X90-style front grille, indicative of Proton's evolving design of the “Ethereal Bow”.
This recent sighting aligns with spy shots from last week, confirming also that the rear will not be receiving the Boyue Pro taillights. However, the position of the horizontal rear reflectors (previously vertical), now pegged to the top of the rear bumper suggests the rear bumper will receive some design updates as well.
It is also rumoured that the interior will also be mostly unchanged from the X70 MC model first introduced in 2022. However, the infotainment system could be updated to feature Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Proton has previously confirmed that its next new model will finally include the popular feature but stopped short of saying it will be introduced in an all-new model, or a mid-lifecycle update like the upcoming 2024 X70.
Elsewhere, it's almost certain that the new X70 will be powered by the 177 PS/255 Nm 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine that Proton produces at its Tanjung Malim engine plant.
The new model will likely not feature the 184 PS/300 Nm 1.8-litre TGDi 4-cylinder engine which hasn’t been produced since October last year, according to MAA data from last year.
Although there is no word yet on when the updated X70 will be launched, increased sightings of it on Malaysian roads suggest that it isn’t too far away.
Also, the production of the outgoing model wound down since late last year. Likely, Proton is also already gearing up to produce the updated model, which is sorely needed if Proton intends to compete with a salvo of new and upcoming rivals, including the 2024 Honda CR-V and several Chinese models such as the Chery Tiggo 7 and the Jaecoo J7 which are also slated to be launched very soon.
To recap, the current (pre-facelift) X70 is priced in Malaysia as below:
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
