Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has clarified that there is no need to scan the MySejahtera contact tracing app at petrol stations if the individual is not using any of the provided facilities at a petrol station. The statement was made in response to the confusion on the need to scan the contact tracing app at petrol stations that has spread across the nation.
"For individuals who make transactions via credit card or debit card at the pump and did not accept help from the station's employees or have no plans to enter the station's shop, they are not required to register on MySejahtera. These individuals only spent time at the pump and leave the premises without coming into contact with anybody," explained Ismail Sabri.
This rule also applies to individuals who needs the use of the tyre pump facilities at the petrol station.
Ismail Sabri has also said that there is also no need for the individual to scan their MySejahtera apps if they are making their payments at the window counters. He explains that as there is a glass between the individual and the cashier, they are not in direct contact with other individuals.
But this will only apply if there are no lines waiting to make a payment at the window counter. If there is a queue, individuals waiting to make the payment at the window will still need to scan the MySejahtera QR code.
MySejahtera app scans are only required if the individual needs to enter the store (regardless if it is to make a payment, buy a snack or to use the ATM machine), the surau, or make use of the petrol station’s washroom.
Those sending their cars to station’s attached workshop and manual car wash service are also required to scan their MySejahtera apps.
This has debunked the initial report made by the Royal Malaysian Police that all individuals visiting a petrol station are required to scan their MySejahtera apps even if they are not planning to enter the station’s store.
Either way, be sure to sanitise your hands after you are done and wear a face mask at all times when you are refuelling at a petrol station.
