According to information obtained by Best Car Web, Nissan has plans for the next development of the GT-R. However, the plans are on hold for now with the current R35 set to continue production until 2022.

This means that the R35 will be in production for a total of 15 years! Not only will the GT-R be one of the oldest-production sports cars, it's also in the running for the longest-running production model in the world.

As for the 2025 GT-R – possibly called the R36 – it could be powered by a mild-hybrid engine. Details are not fully clear at the moment but the plan is to attach an integrated starter generator (ISG) to its existing 3.8-litre V6 engine.

Granted, it will be tough to produce a high-performance car in the future with stricter emission regulations and fuel consumption ratings. So, the ISG will be installed to help improve fuel consumption with the aim of increasing the R36’s fuel consumption to 10 km/L as opposed to the R35’s 7.8 km/L.

As for the design, these images are only renders from the Best Car Web team. The R36 looks like it will retain the swoopy, svelte lines of the R35. In fact, just like the Z Proto, the R36 might also retain the same platform as its predecessor.

However, while it does look futuristic, the redesigned rear might spark some debate with the iconic twin taillights being covered. Again, these are just renderings, not official designs from Nissan.

When the R35 was first launched, it was a technological marvel by introducing the world to the boosting power of launch control. Now though, rivals have caught up and Godzilla is seen as an aging dinosaur.

You could transform the Almera into a GT-R for the best of both worlds...

Since Nissan is currently under some kind of restructuring, here’s hoping the once formidable Japanese giant would bounce back to its glory days. They seem to be at a right start with the all-new Almera Turbo.
