In 2022, Nissan USA discontinued the Rogue Sport, as the Nissan Qashqai is known as there. The American Qashqai was supposed to be replaced by a new generation, more upmarket Kicks in 2023 but production of the B-SUV faced some undisclosed setbacks. Now, Nissan has previewed the second generation 2024 Nissan Kicks ahead of its public debut at the 2024 New York International Auto Show.

As this is just a preview, not a lot of details are shared. The new Kicks looks bigger than before, but dimensions are not yet available.

Nissan says a new 2.0-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder will power the all-new Kicks, paired to an improved Xtronic CVT. The previous model made do with a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated unit.

All-wheel drive is now available as an option, as is a panoramic sunroof.

The North American market Nissan Kicks will be built in Mexico. It is unclear if this new generation Kicks will be sold in Malaysia, or if this North American market Kicks will be the same model sold elsewhere. Remember that both the Toyota Yaris Cross and Honda HR-V can refer to different cars in different parts of the world.

Over in Europe, the J12 generation Nissan Qashqai remains on sale. The model was introduced in 2021. The Kicks is not sold in Europe.

In Southeast Asia, the outgoing first generation Nissan Kicks was sold in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand – but trails very far behind the similarly priced Honda HR-V and Toyota Yaris Cross. In Thailand, the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross sells around 4 to 5 times more than the Kicks.
