Following a refreshingly simple naming convention, Swedish carmaker Polestar has announced that their third model will be called the...Polestar 3.
As Polestar is Volvo Cars' and Geely Holdings' electric vehicle (EV) sub-brand, the Polestar 3 SUV will also be all-electric - just like the Polestar 1 and the Polestar 2.
The brand says that the model hiding under the sheets will be an "aerodynamic electric performance SUV", and will also debut the new generation of EV architecture from Volvo Car Group which has been designed from the ground-up for full electrification.
Upon arrival, it'll have its work cut out for it as the EV SUV segment is a burgeoning one, populated with current models such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E, BMW iX, and upcoming models like the next-gen, electrified Porsche Macan.
The model will also feature "industry-leading" connectivity features based on Google's Android Automotive OS infotainment system, as well as various autonomous driving features.
Production of the Polestar 3 is scheduled to commence in 2022, alongside other Volvo models at the Volvo Cars production centre in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Polestar vehicles made here will be for sale in the United States.
Meanwhile, Polestar will open around 25 retail ‘Spaces’ across the country in 2021, offering conveniences such as home test drives, free pick-up and delivery servicing, and mobile service for consumers in markets still awaiting the opening of a Polestar Space.
