The 2024 Chery Omoda E5 battery electric vehicle (BEV) has launched in Indonesia, marking its first official introduction in an ASEAN market; and as a locally-assembled (CKD Bekasi) product no less.

Prices for the all-electric SUV are as follows:

• IDR 498 million (~RM 151,449) on the road
• IDR 488 million (~RM 148,407) exclusively for the first 1,000 buyers

These prices set the Omoda E5 as the range-topper of them all, which includes the base Omoda 5 Z and RZ (IDR 335 million and IDR 405 million, ~RM 102k and ~RM 123k), as well as the Omoda 5 GT FWD and AWD (IDR 454 million and IDR 494 million, ~RM 138k to RM ~150k).

The package for the Omoda E5 includes a Vehicle to Load (V2L) Charger, 7 kW AC Charger, and a portable charger.

Specs of Chery Omoda E5 

The Chery Omoda E5 measures 4,424 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, 1,588 mm in height, with a of 2,630 mm wheelbase; not entirely different from the ICE variants, with the minute differences coming from stylistic changes more than anything.

Speaking of which, there's a new softer front bumper devoid of the crystalline grille, a more streamlined rear bumper, and a fresh set of dual-tone 18-inch wheels to go.

Inside, it comes with a dual 24.6-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, Sony audio system, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, intelligent voice interactive operation, and a 540°HD panoramic camera.

There are six electric seat adjustment options for both the driver and front passenger, as well as a multifunctional steering wheel with three driving modes (Eco, Sport, and Normal). A sunroof is also standard.

The Chery Omoda E5 uses Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor paired to a 61.06 kWh capacity battery, capable of covering a distance of 430 km (WLTP test). The vehicle features Max DC charging power of 150 kW with fast charging taking only 28 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.

The electric motor embedded in the Omoda E5 is claimed to produce 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque. Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes only 7.2 seconds.

The Omoda E5 also comes with 17 advanced driver aid functions (ADAS), adding on a driver monitoring system above the regular ICE variants.

Aftersales and warranty

Chery's headline-grabbing feat here is the lifetime warranty for the electric motor and battery (only for the first 1,000 customers, otherwise its 6-years/160,000 km) aside from a 6-year/160,000 km vehicle warranty, and free spare parts for 5-years or 75,000 km.

Upon its launch in Indonesia, the Omoda E5 should eventually make its way into Malaysia later this year, given that the model was previewed here in late 2023. Its specifications should be similar to what is offered in Indonesia.
