[WapCar] The number of gears refers to the number of gears of the stepped gear transmission.
The number of manual gearboxes is mostly 5 or 6 gears, while the automatic gears are mostly 4-8 gears, some cars are also equipped with 9-speed and 10-speed gearboxes. The more gears, the better the car's adaptability to driving conditions and the lower the fuel consumption, however, the more complicated the transmission, the more inconvenient operation and the higher the cost. In the gears of the transmission, the gear with the smaller number is called low gear. The smaller the number, the greater the speed ratio, the greater the traction, and the lower the vehicle speed. For example, the first gear has the lowest speed but the greatest traction. A gear with a large number is called a high gear, the larger the number, the lower the speed ratio, the lower the traction, and the higher the speed. For example, in a five-speed transmission, the fifth-speed vehicle has the highest speed and the lowest traction.
CVT gearbox theoretically has no gears, but in order to make driving more fun, use the trip computer to take out several corresponding values from the continuous transmission ratio of the CVT gearbox to simulate the power output of the traditional automatic gearbox.
