Alongside the Mercedes-AMG EQE, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has also just recently launched the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ at Zepp KL in association with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kuala Lumpur.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ is fully imported (CBU) from Germany and is priced from RM 798,888. Comparitively, the regular locally-assembled (CKD) Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic starts from RM 648,888.

On the surface, the EQS 53 looks like a normal jellybean but the gentlemen and ladies of Affalterbach have enhanced some extra spicy ingredients to this smooth EV. Being Mercedes-AMG’s first EV offering, the pair of electric motors on the front and rear axles are enhanced to give more power.

The permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) produce 658 PS and 950 Nm on the base version. Overseas, there is the option to upgrade to the AMG Dynamic Plus package which boosts power to 761 PS and 1,020 Nm but this option is not offered in Malaysia.

Other AMG enhancements include the fully variable AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive (AWD) system, AMG Ride Control+ air suspension system, high-performance composite braking system, and the AMG Sound Experience which would turn your otherwise quiet performance EV to produce a “powerful, sonorous sound”.

Juicing up the potent EQS is a 400-volt lithium-ion battery with a usable content of 108.4 kWh. Even though this is a performance EV, it has a short charging time with a claimed 31 minutes charge via a 200 kW DC fast charger to charge from 10% to 80%. Under WLTP ratings, the EQS 53 has a range of between 529-586 km.

The EQS 53 also has a drag coefficient (Cd) value of 0.23 which is aided by a few aerodynamically-optimised AMG parts including a front splitter with air curtains, a rear apron with 6 longitudinal fins, and a larger rear spoiler.

The AMG additions continue inside with AMG seats made out of Artico man-made leather, a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel in Nappa leather, AMG sports pedals, as well as AMG floor mats and door sill trims.
