All-new 2021 Toyota Harrier launched in Singapore - from SGD 161k, TSS, 2 variants

The all-new 2021 Toyota Harrier has just been launched in Singapore. Two variants are offered, and prices range from SGD 161k (~RM 488k) to SGD 174k (~RM 528k).

Toyota Harrier Variants

As mentioned - two variants of the premium SUV are offered there, the Elegance and the Hybrid Luxury. The latest Harrier cuts a beautiful figure, starting from the front fascia with its slim LED headlights flanking its aggressive grille.

The aesthetic appeal continues on the side with a gently-tapering roofline and a subtle spoiler. All variants of the Singapore-spec Harrier rolls on 18-inch wheels.

Round the back, the clean looks are further accentuated with an LED lightbar that joints both tail lights together and capping off the looks are set of chrome tailpipes.

Singaporean customers have a choice of 6 colours to choose from, which are Precious Black, Dark Blue Mica, Sensual Red Mica, Steel Blonde Metallic, White Pearl Crystal Shine, and Slate Grey Metallic.

Performance - TNGA platform, 2 engine choices

Much like the blocky Toyota RAV4, the Harrier sits on the modular Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, specifically TNGA-K. Meanwhile, customers over in the island have a choice of two engines, depending on variant:

The powertrain options make the Harrier the second hybrid-powered Toyota crossover to be officially sold on the island, after the Toyota Yaris Cross that was launched earlier this month

Features - luxurious inside

Two colour combinations are available for the interior - pure black or this black/brown combo.

Geared towards the luxury end of the spectrum, the interior is swathed in leather, including on the centre console, centre arm rest, and dashboard.

A 10.5-inch colour head-up display (HUD), an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and ambient lighting are standard fitments.

Boot space is rated at 396 litres with the rear seats up, and all variants will come with a hands-free powered tailgate with kick sensor.

For the extra money, the Hybrid Luxury variant gets an additional wireless charger and an electronically-adjustable front seats (with memory and ventilation functions).

Buyers of the Luxury variant will also get the Full Digital Mirror – essentially a digital wide-angle rear-view mirror that replaces the traditional glass-type mirror.

But that's not all - the Luxury variant also gets the trick electrochromic sunroof with a one-touch dimming function.

Safety - TSS is standard

In addition to 7 airbags, both variants of the Harrier sold across the Causeway receives the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite with these features:

  • Pre-Collision System (PCS)
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
  • Lane Departure Assist (LDA)
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB)
  • Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (BSM, RCTA)

Burning question - coming to Malaysia?

The all-new Toyota Harrier will certainly be launched in Malaysia in the near future. As before, it will be fully imported (CBU) from Japan.

Previously, we estimated it to arrive this year, but the top-selling SUV is currently facing a 9-month backlog, which could delay export plans for a while more.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
