Coming to Malaysia - Mercedes-AMG Project One, at least 2 official units

The Mercedes-AMG Project One Concept was first revealed to the world back in 2017. It’s an engineer’s wet dream of practically making a road-going F1 car. In Malaysia, at least two buyers have placed an order for the Mercedes-AMG Project One with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

To recap, the Mercedes-AMG Project One is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 hybrid engine plucked directly from an F1 car. It’s claimed to produce over 1000 PS and is mated to an 8-speed automated manual transmission.

It gets all-wheel drive, with a pair of electric motors driving the front wheels and the hybrid engine powering the rear. Forget 0-100 km/h time, Mercedes-AMG is claiming a 0-200 km/h time of under 6 seconds with a top speed of over 350 km/h.

The car is also capable of pure electric driving of up to 25 km, courtesy of the electric motors on the front axle and a lithium-ion battery pack.

There are various forms aerodynamic trickery such as active louvres on the wheel arches to relieve pressure at high speeds, F1-like dorsal fin along the centre of the car, NACA ducts for cooling, etc. Basically, it’s as close to an F1 car for the road as it gets.

Mercedes-AMG is planning for a 275-unit run, each one with a rumoured price of more than 2 million Euro (>RM 10 million). For now, there’s still no indication as to when the production car will arrive, with Mercedes-AMG only saying “Sooner than later.”
