PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Toyota’s distributor in Indonesia has launched two new SUVs in the archipelago, an updated Fortuner diesel variant and the Super King itself – the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series.
The latest generation of the Land Cruiser made its debut in the Middle East in June 2021 and while that market sees multiple variants, the Indo-spec LC is only available with 2 variants – VX-R and GR Sport.
Prices for the Land Cruiser VX-R start from IDR 2.33 billion (~RM 680k) while the Land Cruiser GR Sport starts from IDR 2.38 billion (~RM 696k). The behemoth SUV is fully-imported (CBU) from Japan.
Being an exclusive and legendary name among SUV fans, both variants will feature an exclusive 70th Anniversary emblem on the sides and rear as well as on the door scuff plate. This is in commemoration of the Land Cruiser’s 70th anniversary in 2021.
Both variants of the Indo Land Cruiser are powered by a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel unit (305 PS/700 Nm). It is worth noting that the power output provided by TAM’s press release is 4 PS less than the global figure.
The 6-cylinder oil burner is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all 4 wheels.
Underneath, the LC 300 is built on the newly-developed TNGA-F platform which allows Toyota engineers to equip the SUV with a better suspension system – double wishbone in front, four-link coil suspension in the rear.
However, the GR Sport gets additional stability control and adaptive variable suspension which have been tested by Dakar rally drivers. Besides, the old-school-looking performance variant of the LC also gets E-KDSS (Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) and an electronic differential lock on the front and rear wheels.
Though both variants are catered to different sets of buyers, the VX-R being more luxury-oriented while the GR Sport is more for the performance-minded clientele, both SUVs are capable to go off-road and with ease too.
With Auto-MTS (Multi-terrain select), the system can detect the road level quality and adopt the most accurate driving mode to control and optimize tire traction for sandy, rocky, muddy, or other challenging roads.
Befitting of its premium price, the Land Cruiser 300 comes standard with the following features:
Wireless charger
Rear seat entertainment
Digital video recorder
Leather seats
It’s also packed with plenty of safety features with 8 airbags, blind-spot monitors (BSM), Downhill Assist Control (DAC), as well as Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ADAS suite which comes with:
Pre-Collision System (PCS)
Lane Departure Alert (LDA)
Rear Camera Detection (RCD)
Adaptive High Beam (AHB)
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
Don’t get your hopes too high for UMW Toyota (UMWT) to bring in the all-new Land Cruiser 300 into Malaysia. The last LC that was brought over officially was the Land Cruiser 80 (Ninja Turtle) and the only way you could really get your hands on one is via grey importers. There are a few sold in Thailand so it would be time before local recond dealers get their hands on one.
