Before 2022 ends, newly-appointed Peugeot distributor Bermaz Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd (BAASB) is likely to launch the Peugeot Landtrek, a 4x4 pick-up truck that is set to challenge the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max.

According to sources familiar with the matter, we now know that the Peugeot Landtrek destined for the Malaysian market will likely locally-assembled (CKD) at the Stellantis plant in Gurun, Kedah.

Codenamed KP1, the Peugeot Landtrek will be the fourth Peugeot model to be assembled there, after the Peugeot 2008, Peugeot 3008, and Peugeot 5008.

Despite the pick-up truck wearing a Peugeot badge, it is actually a rebadged Kaicene F70, developed by Changan Automobile and Stellantis.

Depending on where the Peugeot Landtrek is sold, it can either be powered by a 1.9-litre turbodiesel (152 PS, 350 Nm) or a 2.4-litre turbo petrol (212 PS, 320 Nm).

Currently, the sole right-hand drive market for the Landtrek is South Africa and it is powered by the 1.9-litre turbodiesel.

Standard equipment for the Peugeot Landtrek includes LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, chrome outer door handles, LED tail lights, and automatic rain-sensing wipers. The Allure (4x2) variant offers 17-inch alloy wheels, while the 4Action (4x4) variant offers larger 18-inch units.

The South African-spec Landtrek offers 6 airbags for both variants, and the 4Action bundles Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Lane Keeping Alert – that’s about it, as the Landtrek does not offer any ADAS features in South Africa.
