Following the launch of the 2022 Peugeot 2008, newly-appointed Peugeot distributor Bermaz Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd (BAASB) will be debuting the Peugeot Landtrek, a brand-new pick-up truck aimed squarely at the ever-popular Toyota Hilux. 

The Peugeot Landtrek is actually a rebadged Changan Kaicene F70. Depending on the market it’s sold in, the Peugeot Landtrek is available with these powertrains:

• 1.9-litre turbodiesel: 152 PS, 350 Nm
• 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol: 212 PS, 320 Nm

At the moment, the only right-hand drive market for the Peugeot Landtrek is South Africa. Over there, standard equipment for the Peugeot Landtrek include LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, chrome outer door handles, LED tail lights, and automatic rain-sensing wipers. The Allure variant offers 17-inch alloy wheels, while the 4Action variant offers larger 18-inch units.

Inside, both variants of South Africa’s Peugeot Landtrek offer a digital and analogue combination instrument cluster, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a massive 10-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

The Landtrek sold in South Africa offers 6 airbags across both variants, while the top-spec 4Action adds Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Lane Keeping Alert. No other ADAS features are offered on the South African-spec Landtrek.

Size-wise, 5,330 mm x 1,920 mm x 1,819 mm, the Peugeot Landtrek is aimed squarely at core rivals such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, Mitsubishi Triton, and Nissan Navara.

Earlier, Malaysia witnessed the debut of several Chinese pick-up trucks, like the JMC Vigus Pro, as well as the updated Maxus T60. Another Chinese rival on the horizon is the GWM Poer pick-up truck, though it remains to be seen if the GWM can arrive here before year’s end.
