BMW Malaysia has launched the BMW i5 eDrive40, the all-electric (EV) version of the G60 2023 BMW 5 Series, which comes fully-imported (CBU) from Germany, priced at RM 419,800 (OTR without insurance, inclusive of the extended warranty and service package).
As seen in the global reveal, the BMW i5 features vertical LED DRL graphics in the headlights, which are adaptive LED units, and an illuminated kidney grille.

It gets the M high gloss Shadowline treatment with gloss black trims and 21-inch BMW Individual aerodynamic 954 wheels. Itβs also kitted out with the M Sport Package, which adds aerodynamic elements and adaptive suspension.
In terms of dimensions, the BMW i5 eDrive40 measures 5,060 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,995 mm. This represents an increase of 97 mm in length, 32 mm in width, 36 mm in height, and 20 mm in wheelbase compared to its predecessor. Boot space is rated at 490 litres.
It features rear-axle steering called the Integral Active Steering, which enhances manoeuvrability and agility at medium speeds, with the turning circle reduced by more than 0.6 metre to 11.7 metres.
Powering the BMW i5 eDrive40 is a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 340 PS and 430 Nm, accelerating the car from 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds. WLTP range is rated at up to 582 km from the 83.9 kWh (gross) battery.
Charging wise, the Combined Charging Unit (CCU) of the BMW i5 enables AC charging with an output of up to 11 kW. DC fast charging is rated at up to 205 kW.
Inside the i5, a curved display spans the top of the dashboard, incorporating a 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It runs on BMW Operating System 8.5 and features a redesigned home screen with vertically arranged function icons on the driver side.
Other niceties include a panoramic glass roof, an "Interaction Bar" that extends across the entire width of the instrument panel and works with the ambient lighting, and the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, with 18 speakers and 655 watts of power.
Thereβs an interior roof camera that BMW says is able to capture moments with friends and family, and owners can view and transfer the footage via a QR code on the control display. The My BMW app lets owners watch the camera footage on their smartphones, and it also has an anti-theft feature for added safety.
In terms of advanced driver-assistance systems, the BMW i5 eDrive40 features the Driving Assistance Professional package, which includes features like Distance Control with Stop and Go, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Speed Limit Assist, and advanced navigation guidance.
Thereβs also a new system called the Proactive Care, which offers various services, including Condition Based Service, Accident Assistance, Live Diagnosis, and Digital Tyre Diagnosis. In the event that immediate servicing is required while on the road, the system will trigger an alert which will guide the driver to the nearest BMW dealership.
Standard exterior colour offerings for the BMW i5 eDrive40 include the Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Brooklyn Grey Metallic and Phytonic Blue Metallic.
