Floor or pillar-mounted rear air-cond vents? For the 2024 Honda CR-V, one answer makes better sense

If you take a look at some larger, maybe even pricier SUVs in Malaysia, chances are their rear air-cond vents are situated by the B-pillars. However, in the 2024 Honda CR-V, it's on the floor ahead of the second row β just like most regular cars.
Is there a specific reason for this; a tactical advantage, if you will?
Eisuke Sato, who led the development of the model (Large Project Leader) explains that it's a trade off between slightly easier adjustments and efficiency.
"Technically, it is possible to have it at the pillars, but in terms of efficiency it's better to have it at the centre console. We do understand that in terms of the usage of the rear passenger, it is easier to change/adjust if it's on the pillar, but in terms of efficiency, it's still better on the centre console," explained Sato.
There's also the question of visibility. "Also, if we were to place it at the B-pillar, the B-pillar would be thicker, which would also block visibility, and that is one of the reasons why we place it on the centre console," continued Sato.
The CR-V is a large car, and having impeded visibility won't help its case. Plus, having pillar-mounted vents requires longer, more complex piping, thus needing more counter measures to maintain temperatures.
Meanwhile, here's the answer on why the CR-V in Malaysia only comes with five seats, instead of seven like in other markets.
