Following the debut of Chery’s upscale Jaecoo brand in Malaysia, Chery has announced that a new battery EV (BEV) Jaecoo J6 will be launched in Thailand in the fourth quarter of 2024. The fully electric J6 will be joined by the J7 and J8.
The Jaecoo brand will be managed by Chery’s wholly owned national sales company Omoda & Jaecoo (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
Interestingly, all Jaecoo models planned for Thailand won’t carry the J prefix and will be launched there simply as the Jaecoo 6, Jaecoo 7 and Jaecoo 8. In Malaysia, Jaecoo models were previewed with the J prefix, the J7 and J8.
Also, Thailand’s Jaecoo J7 will be launched as a plug-in hybrid. This is different from the model previewed in Malaysia in January, which had a 197 PS / 290 Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

Back to the J6. In China, the model is marketed as the iCar 03.
It measures 4,406 mm long, 1,910 mm wide, and 1,715 mm tall, with a 2,715 mm wheelbase – about the size of a Chery Omoda E5.
Under the car is a 69.8 kWh battery, which Jaecoo says is enough for a claimed driving range of up to 501 km (CLTC).
The model is available either as a single-motor rear-wheel drive, or a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup makes a combined output of 279 hp and 385 Nm.
Detailed specifications for Thailand market, right-hand drive models will be announced closer to its launch later this year.
Currently, there are no right-hand drive Jaecoo J6 yet, so the model previewed still has its steering wheel on the left.
Omoda & Jaecoo Thailand also announced that it is building an assembly plant in Thailand. The plant is expected to be operational by 2025. The company however didn’t say which models will be assembled (CKD) there, but confirmed that the Omoda C5 EV (Chery Omoda E5 to us) will be launched in mid-2024, followed by the Jaecoo 7 in the third quarter. The Jaecoo 6 and Jaecoo 8 will round up the year.
