Chery has confirmed that it will be launching the Chery Tiggo 8Pro Max in Malaysia in June 2023, which will be their first model in the brand's return to our country. The 7-seater SUV will be introduced alongside the Chery Omoda 5.
Detailed specifications are still sparse at the moment but here's what we know: two turbocharged powertrains will be on offer, a 1.6T(197 PS, 290 Nm), and a 2.0T (250 PS, 390 Nm). Both engines are paired to a 7-speed DCT.
Features on the outside are still yet to be confirmed, but Chery says a 'new galaxy grille design' will be part of that. If ours sticks faithful to the preview unit seen here late last year, it's fair to expect things like matrix LED head- and taillights, quad exhaust tips, and large 18-inch wheels.
Other kit earmarked for Malaysia are Android Auto/Apple CarPlay functionality, full ADAS, a Sony sound system, and a powered boot.
Local assembly (CKD) for the Tiggo 8 Pro and Chery Omoda 5 is on the cards; as announced by the Anhui carmaker in February 2023.
The identity of its local partner isn't shared yet too, and so is the location of the plant; but it's rumoured to be in Kulim, Kedah - at the Sime Darby Motors-Bermaz Auto co-owned Inokom plant.
