Yesterday night, the citizens of Johor were treated to a real show of Fast and Furious as 17 Honda Civic police cars were deployed to chase after a Toyota Corolla Altis driven by a drug dealer. After chasing the suspect from Johor Bahru, the police finally managed to stop the car with the help of lorry drivers in Kluang.
According to South Johor Bahru (JBS) Assistant Commissioner Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain, police first came across the Altis in Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bahru, where the patrol department was conducting a sweep as part of the Movement Control Order (MCO) protocol.
When they tried to stop the suspicious-looking Altis, the suspect had instead floored the throttle to escape investigation hence starting the car chase that ended all the way in Kluang.
In the incident, 17 Honda Civic patrol cars from 5 districts were deployed to help track down the suspect. 5 patrol cars from JBS police headquarters, another 5 from the North Johor Bahru police headquarters, 1 patrol car each from Iskandar Puteri, Kulai, Kluang police headquarters as well as one from the Highway Patrol department.
Close to RM 50,000 worth of drugs were confiscated from the Altis while the 45-year-old suspect was arrested and will be remanded for 7 days. Further investigations revealed that the suspect also has several previous criminal and drug records.
It was also revealed that the Corolla Altis the suspect was driving was registered under a car rental company.
The suspect will be investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing authorities from performing their duties and Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
The Kluang Patrol Department has even extended a special thanks to the trucker community for their quick thinking of forming a barricade on the North-South Highway to block the suspect’s escape route.
