Malaysia to launch special 50th anniversary CKD 2024 VW Golf GTI later this year

At the sidelines of the launch of the 2024 VW Touareg here in Malaysia today, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) confirms that a special edition Golf GTI to celebrate the model's 50th anniversary will be introduced here later this year.
Take note however that GTI was specifically mentioned. Looking at VW's overseas line-up, there is a Golf Edition 50 – but this is however a non-GTI model, which are not available in Malaysia anymore. Presumably then, this means it'll be a local special edition, something VPCM has done before in the past.
So what could be new? We reckon it'll play along the lines of the global Golf Edition 50, meaning visual enhancements on the inside and outside. For example, the Golf Edition 50 for the European market comes with 18-inch "Leeds" alloy wheels, illuminated radiator grille strip, a VW badge that lights up, and '50' badges on the B-pillars.
The inside gets Edition 50 logos on the front sill panel mouldings and steering wheel trim, brushed stainless steel pedal caps, and a black headliner.
Still, official details for the special anniversary edition for the Golf GTI in Malaysia are still under wraps, and we'll have to wait a while more. In the meantime, the regular locally-assembled (CKD) Golf GTI is priced from RM 254,012, while the CKD Golf R is still estimated to be priced around RM 330,000.
