Weststar Maxus has launched Malaysia’s first all-electric MPV in the form of the Maxus Mifa 9. There will be 2 variants available, the Luxury and Premium, priced at RM 269,888 and RM 289,888 respectively.
Onto the important bits then. The Mifa 9 offered here packs a 90-kWh battery that gives it a claimed range of up to 435 km for the Luxury and 430 km for the Premium on a single charge. Drive is via an electric motor over the front axles, meaning front-wheel drive. With 245 PS and 350 Nm of torque, the Mifa 9 will dismiss the century sprint in 9.2 seconds and top out at 180 kmh.
On the charging front, the maximum DC charging rate is 120 kW, filling the battery from 30-80 percent in just 30 minutes. The slower AC charging with the usual 11 kW unit will go from 5-100 percent in 8.5 hours.
Dimensionally, the Mifa 9 measures in at 5,270 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,840 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm. For perspective, the Mifa 9’s wheelbase is 200 mm longer than the AH40 Toyota Alphard.

The longer wheelbase does translate into a larger cabin as the luggage space is impressive, being able to swallow four suitcases with ease behind the third row. Storage space can be made larger with the conveniently foldable last row seats.
Seating is for 7 with the usual 2+2+3 layout carrying a pair of first-class seats in the middle. The seats are 8-way power adjustable with massage function, ventilation + heating and reclining functions all controlled via a touchscreen with memory settings. There’s also an adjustable footrest.
For those lucky enough to be in the middle row and need to get some work done on a laptop or use any other electrical device, there’s a 220 V power outlet. Don’t fret about where you’ll place the laptop though, the first-class seats house an aircraft-style tray table in the armrest.

- Tyres are 235/55R19 for both but the Premium comes with runflats
- Heated steering wheel for the Premium
- PVC leather for Luxury, real leather for Premium
- 8 speakers for Luxury and 12 speakers for Premium

Other conveniences include an electric tailgate, dual sliding doors, built-in air purifier and multizone climate control with second-row controls via the touchscreen. It doesn’t stop there though, you’ll also find dual sunroofs and interior RGB ambient lighting.
Infotainment is in the form of a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The driver is fed all the important information via a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Front occupants get access to a wireless device charging pad in the centre console and all 3 rows of seats have USB ports for charging.
