The man who starred in a viral video for not only causing a massive accident but assaulting a firefighter as well has been charged guilty on 2 accounts and sentenced to 6 months in jail along with a RM 6,000 fine.
Kan Hong Kit, 33, pleaded guilty at the Kajang Magistrate to the multiple charges placed against him.
Based on the first charge, Kan was charged for intentionally using criminal force to prevent a civil servant, Alfred Rudy Anak Tunku, from carrying out his duties as a firefighter.
Magistrate Muhammad Noor Firdaus Rosli sentenced Kan to one month in jail starting 20 October 2020 after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
He was charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 2 years in jail or a fine or both.
According to Berita Harian, Kan also apologised during his appeal and promised never to repeat his offence and asked for a minimum fine.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Hairul Iqram Hairuddin objected to his appeal and applied for the Magistrate to give a fair sentence.
He argued that the offence occurred during the Conditional Movement Control Order period in which stricter regulations are in place for the public had to cooperate with civil servants who are on duty.
"In this case, the fire brigade is extinguishing the fire from the accused's car to prevent it from exploding," he said.
Kan was also charged guilty of reckless driving in accordance with Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Magistrate Syahrul Sazly Md Sain sentenced Kan to 5 months in jail starting 20 October 2020.
In addition to jail time, Kan was also fined RM 6,000 and will have his driving license suspended for 2 years. If Kan fails to pay the fine, he will have to face another 3 months in jail.
Although early reports stated that Kan had tested positive for drugs, no sentence was passed regarding self-administering drugs.
