Recently, Kia announced that bookings of the all-new 2022 Kia Sportage have been opened in Korea and calling it an overwhelming success might be a bit of an understatement. Just one day after pre-orders were opened, 16,078 units were ordered.
This is the second highest pre-order sales ever recorded for a domestic SUV in Korea right after the all-new Kia Sorento (18,941 units). The Sportage’s pre-order figures easily surpassed that of the previous record holder, the Hyundai Tucson which recorded 10,842 orders during its launch.
According to an official statement made by Kia to the Korean media, the reason for this overwhelming response is that customers are attracted to the large interior space that outclasses its rivals.
It is worth noting that the Tucson shares the same platform as the Sportage and has nearly similar dimensions. Perhaps the Kia is more appealing to look at than the Tucson to Korean buyers?

Kia has sold a total of 6,136,357 units of the Sportage worldwide ever since it was launched in 1993. It is the first Kia model to surpass 6 million units in sales and this all-new Sportage is proof that its rise will continue.
The fifth-gen Sportage will be launched globally later this year. In Korea, the SUV is available with 6 variants and prices start from KRW 24.42 million (~RM 90,000).
