Europe-bound versions of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback won’t be fitted with the company’s turbocharged powertrain; instead, it will be a hybrid.
According to Honda's European arm, this is in-line with their plans of electrifying its mainstream European models by the end of 2022.
For Europe, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback will receive Honda’s trick two-motor i-MMD full-hybrid powertrain, combining an Atkinson cycle petrol engine and two electric motors.
The all-new 2022 Honda Civic will be sold alongside other electrified Honda models, including the Honda Jazz Hybrid and Honda CR-V Hybrid. Apart from that, the new-generation Honda HR-V will also be sold as a hybrid-only model in Europe.
In the past, European versions of the Honda Civic were built in Honda’s Swindon plant in England, but the plant will shut its doors come July. Honda did not mention where the European Honda Civic models will be manufactured.
What about Malaysia?
Back in April, Sarly Adle Sarkum, President and Chief Operating Officer of Honda Malaysia said, “You didn’t see the Civic 2022 World Premier on the internet? Where have you been all this time? Hints for 2021… ‘tunggu’…”
Could Honda Malaysia tease the imminent arrival of the all-new Honda Civic before 2021 ends? We’ll have to wait and see.
