Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has opened its order books for the facelifted, fourth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe. The 7-seater D-segment SUV will be locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim.

Note that this is not that all-new fifth generation Santa Fe that already on sale in Korea. On the upside, a hybrid variant, a first for a local market Korean SUV, will be offered.

Three variants are available, two hybrids and one diesel.

The front-wheel drive Hybrid Plus and Hybrid Max variants are powered by a 1.6 T-GDi 4-cylinder that makes 180 PS / 265 Nm, boosted by a 44.2 kW motor, delivering a total system output of 230 PS / 350 Nm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The all-wheel drive Diesel Max variant is powered by a 2.2 litre CRDi – the same engine as the Staria. In the Santa Fe, it’s been tuned for more power, bumping the numbers up to 202 PS / 440 Nm. Drive is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed wet-type dual clutch transmission (DCT), paired to Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drive system.

The entry Hybrid Plus gets analogue instrument panel.

The higher range Hybrid Max and Diesel Max variants add:

• 12.3-inch digital instrument panel
• Leather seats
• Power-adjusting driver’s seat

Exclusive to the Hybrid Max, which is the range topping variant, are heated/ventilated driver and front passenger seats, and driver’s seat memory.

Three colours are available - Snowflake White Pearl, Jet Black, Meteor Grey and Stormy Sea.
