By saying “2–3 seconds faster” I’m assuming you mean quarter mile or some other point A to point B comparison rather than a top speed comparison as the measure of being faster. A couple of notes on horsepower and torque numbers: first, they are peak numbers that just indicate the highest value hp/tq reached over the entire rpm range tested. You’d need to see dyno charts to have a better understanding of what the actual power characteristics of the two cars were across the entire rpm range they’d operate in for a race like this. Perhaps the Infiniti has significantly more space under the curve and large power and tq advantages almost everywhere other than at the peak? The second point about hp/tq numbers is the distinction between crank and wheel values. If the quoted numbers are at the wheel then this point becomes a bit moot but if those are crank numbers then they don’t account for drivetrain losses and perhaps the infiniti is more efficient at delivering power to the road. Another differentiator (mild pun kind of intended) would be the differential (and gearing in general including wheel height and gearbox ratios). The shorter geared car will have a gearing torque advantage that should help acceleration. This advantage comes at the cost of top speed but in a race from A to B where the cars aren’t reaching top speed its an advantage for the shorter geared car. Those first few items would be where I’d expect the majority of the difference is. A number of other factors would be at play such as wind resistance, perhaps grip if the cars are able to break their tires loose but for street cars at that power level that’s not as likely to be a huge factor. Computers might play a roll in it too if say one or the other is engaging traction control or if either is an auto and not shifting optimally.
It can be tune up .. the performance gain for a NA engine after a proper tune are small with a 600 limited budged .. even a proper tune up can be more than that solely in Dyno time plus the programmable ECU
There is no reason to do this in normal driving. But there is a way to do it for emissions testing and dyno tests. You put it into maintenance mode. This turns the engine on, disables traction control, vehicle stability control, etc. It is only meant for tests, do not drive with it enabled. It requires a chicken dance to do when the car is started and only lasts until the next power up.
My car is 18 this year :- It runs a 300 kilowatt 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine as it's tuned & I need a better job & a manufacturer to make me an equivalent car so I can look at upgrading. I have been looking at buying another GM car but the only one which they are meant to be manufacturing runs a twin turbocharged 3 litre V6 engine, after my experience with smaller engines they just aren't the same as a big V8,they are higher maintenance than a big V8 engine which doesn't have to go through any turbochargers,I've replaced the hydraulic lifters & timing chain in the LS1 V8 engine as well as reseal it but it's still goes very good & doesn't burn oil at over 355,000 kilometres. They are building a twin turbocharged 3 litre V6 powered Cadillac CT5 apparently which is about as powerful as my car but I don't think that it would be as reliable, even the outgoing twin turbocharged 4.2 litre Blackwing V8 had better performance than the twin turbocharged 3.6 litre V6 that was another option. In Australia people mucked around & spent tens of thousands of $$$’s getting more power out of the Nissan RB series sixes only to find in most cases they are about as powerful as mine, the 700 horsepower Nissan engines have had serious amounts of money spent on them. My point is many people have mucked around getting air/water intercoolers built for them, custom T3/T4 turbochargers built for them etc,etc when you can slap a big Chevy V8 engine under the bonnet & it will perform well & almost never have to be touched, someone in my area is still trying to do all of that stuff to an old RB25DET powered R33 Skyline. In Australia I run 94 octane E10 unleaded fuel in my car whereas the cars they talk about selling need 98 octane premium unleaded fuel which is much more expensive. GM are talking about fitting the 640 horsepower supercharged LT4 V8 engine into the Cadillac CT5 but I would be happy with about 400–500 horsepower,if I wanted that much horsepower out of mine (500 hp) I could just slip a mild camshaft in & fit stiffer valve springs then get the car dyno tuned again. At this point in time I'm not interested in any current car which is in production,I don't know why GM thought I would buy a Holden Commodore which was imported from Germany which is only like a Toyota Camry, only had a V6 option & has already got rust in it !
