Rendered: Perodua GR Axia - The poor man's GR Yaris

The Toyota GR Yaris has been launched in Malaysia, starting from a staggering price of RM299k. The tiny Toyota GR Yaris is the car we never asked for, but we all love. For those of us dreaming of the GR Yaris (but couldn't afford one), photo manipulator, Theophilus Chin has blessed us with renderings of a Perodua GR Axia instead.

Apart from the number of cylinders and the number of wheels, both the Toyota GR Yaris and Perodua Axia share very little in common.

The Toyota GR Yaris produces 261 PS @ 6,500 rpm and 360 Nm @ 3,000 - 4,600 rpm. It also has an AWD system, making full use of all that power.

The factory-spec Perodua Axia only makes 68 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 91 Nm @ 4,400 rpm.
While the Toyota GR Yaris makes almost 4x the power and torque of the Perodua Axia, it is more than 8x the price.

But why on earth would we compare these two cars? They serve different purposes.

If the Perodua Axia were to handle the same amount of power as the GR Yaris, it will have to be wider and lower too.

The rendering certainly makes the Axia look a lot more aggressive and athletic, without widening the wheel arches and enlarging the wheels - hinting at a less powerful but more affordable car.

A Perodua GR Axia is only stuff of imagination, but it certainly intrigues us. Should Perodua make a hot version of the Axia? Let us know what you think!

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
