The new Isuzu D-Max is winning hearts, awards and might just steal your girl as well 01

Traversing the fine line between being a reliable workhorse and delivering a level of sophistication and luxury is a balancing act that stumps even the brightest engineers that make pick-up trucks but Isuzu appears to have found its equilibrium with the all-new Isuzu D-Max that’s been driving home with back-to-back awards.

The new D-max has injected a level of sophistication and comfort alongside its proven capability and robust nature as a workhorse. In Malaysia, the launch of the all-new D-Max in April last year garnered enormous interest, particularly in the new flagship variant; The X-Terrain, that carries active safety tech to place it on par with the top performers in its class.

“Through the strong and bold design of the new model, excellent safety features and impressive comfort and premium SUV-like refinement, the D-Max X-Terrain has raised the bar to be one of the most desirable pick-up trucks on the market today,” said Isuzu Malaysia’s Chief Operating Officer Kenkichi Sogo.

As the flagship trim in the range, the X-Terrain proved its chops by coming in a close second in terms of trim level as 713 new owners took delivery of their flagship D-Max. It was second only to the D-Max 1.9-litre 4x4 Premium trim that chalked up 842 units in sales.

Unsurprisingly, consumers in the Klang Valley and Kota Kinabalu had the biggest appetite for the new flagship model, taking up more than half of the nationwide total. The fairly even split between urban motorists and the challenging roads of Kota Kinabalu is a clear demonstration of the new D-Max’s versatility in being a workhorse as well as a comfortable city commuter.

That the new D-Max has won numerous awards since its launch is further testament to its immensely wide spread of talent.

In the short span since its launch, the new D-Max X-Terrain swept no less than five “Pick-up Truck of the Year” titles. Luminary media titles such as Carplus, Carlist, DSF.my, Rider ATH and Wapcar picked the Isuzu as the worthy title holder for its impressive ability to bring the pick-up truck experience to a whole new level.

“There were just so many ‘wow’ factors in the new Isuzu D-Max that it was immediately the worthy choice. During our test drive of the Isuzu, we often wondered how a tough and capable vehicle like the D-Max was able to be transformed from a rough diamond to be a brilliantly polished gem,” exclaimed a senior editor.

With the strong demand momentum expected to continue through 2022, Isuzu Malaysia’s priorities will be to address the backlog of supply in order not to disappoint eager customers.

“We expect that once supply is regulated, we will be able to double the deliveries and achieve our target of selling 8,000 units this year,” explained Sogo.

“Better late than never.” Some despise it, others begrudgingly agree with it but he swears by it… much to the chagrin of everyone around him. That unfortunately stems from all of his project cars not running most of the time, which in turn is testament to his questionable decision-making skills in life. A culmination of many wrongs fortunately making a right; much like his project cars on the rare occasions they run, he’s still trying to figure out if another project car is the way to go.
