In terms of meeting all the general prerequisites expected of an entry-level vehicle, no other car in the country can hold a candle to the Perodua Myvi. It didn’t earn its “king of the road” moniker purely from the questionable behaviour of some of its owners.

It used to do everything expected of a simple car without fuss. Now, it’s gone a little beyond that with active safety tech, taking things to the next level. A recent facelift has only just made the best-selling car in Malaysia even better.

At RM58,800, the facelifted Perodua Myvi AV is a lot of car for not much money. However, people don’t say “bigger is always better” for nothing and a worthy challenger rises from well within its own ranks in the shape of its SUV sibling; the Perodua Ativa.

The flagship Ativa AV goes for RM72,000 and the additional RM13,200 is a substantial amount but is it justified?

Based on the average car loan, the Myvi will cost you around RM609 a month while the Ativa is quite a bit more at RM746.

The video below lays out all the facts between the two models; including the pros and cons of each. Of course, both return excellent fuel consumption figures; as expected of any modern Perodua, but there can only be one winner in that respect.

Surprisingly, while you may be expecting the larger Ativa to be a much more spacious proposition, as you’ll see in the video it’s not quite the case.
