Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) has officially launched the all-new second generation 2020 Range Rover Evoque. Sales will start in June, but prices have yet to be announced. The new Evoque is now smarter than ever and features Land Rover’s ground breaking ClearSight technology.

Though the Evoque is still easily recognisable for its hallmark features like the fast roofline and rising waist, the SUV is rebuilt from the ground up to accommodate the new mild-hybrid system. The new chassis is now stiffer than ever to ensure the Evoque maintains its ride comfort and refinement.

The Evoque now sport “jewel-like” elements such as the Matrix LED headlamps paired with sweeping indicators, even wider wheel arches, and 21-inch wheels. Flush door handles now replace the conventional handles for a smoother and sculpted aesthetic.

On the inside, the Evoque has been redesigned to provide occupants with more useful storage space like a larger glove box and a centre cubby that now easily fits items like a tablet, handbags and bottles. Due to the longer wheelbase (extra 20 mm), occupants not only get more legroom but a larger boot space as well, almost 10 percent more than the outgoing Evoque.

The interior also has a new 10-inch HD touchscreen display that houses the new Land Rover InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. The system is now updated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

JLRM is only offering the Evoque with a 2.0-litre Petrol Turbocharged Ingenium engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The engine is still paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Malaysia will only get the all-wheel-drive that comes with Terrain Response 2 system as standard. The PHEV will not be offered here.

Terrain Response 2 will automatically detect the surface the car is driven on and adjust the set-up accordingly. The new Evoque now has a 600 mm wading dept compared to the previous generation of 500 mm.

What makes the Evoque a winning SUV is features like ClearSight Rear View Mirror and ClearSight Ground View. ClearSight Rear View Mirror transforms the rear-view mirror into a HD video screen that projects a 50-degree field of vision and has superior visibility in low light.

ClearSight Ground View is the realisation of the Transparent Bonnet technology that Land Rover previewed in 2014. The feature effectively makes the bonnet invisible by projecting camera imagery onto the 10-inch touchscreen to show the driver a 180-degree view of the front of the car. Think of this as if you’re looking through the car entirely to see any obstacle around the SUV.

Other than that, the Range Rover Evoque’s ADAS has been updated to include Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, Lane Keep Assist, AEB, and Driver Condition Monitor.

Perhaps the most advanced technology on the Evoque is the Smart Setting. It is the first Land Rover to use artificial intelligence algorithms to learn the driver’s preference and acts as an onboard butler. Other than adjusting the seat positions, music preference, and even climate settings, the AI also learns how to adjust the steering column preferences.

The system doesn’t just recognise the key fob but from the Land Rover phone app as well. Owners are allowed to key in eight profile preferences on the Evoque.
