Following the debut of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback, the Japanese carmaker has confirmed that a Civic Type R and full-hybrid Civic e:HEV will follow in 2022.
The Civic e:HEV will be very likely be utilising a full-hybrid Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) dual-motor setup like their Honda Insight, although exact specifications have not been shared yet.
Us Malaysians already see a similar powertrain in the RM 100k Honda City RS. In the B-segment sedan, an electric traction motor is paired to a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder mill.
Details of the Civic Type R are also still under wraps. It could get a 2.0-litre VTEC turbo mill, and a power bump is almost certain - note that even regular Civics see a power increase.
Those are in addition juicy bits like dedicated suspension setup, better brakes, and a more aggressive stature, things that the 10th-generation Civic Type R added on top of regular variants.
