You may have noticed quite several Chery SUVs on Malaysian roads and there is data to prove that. At the press conference following the local launch of the all-electric Chery Omoda E5, Chery Malaysia revealed that nearly 5,000 vehicles were sold in 2023.

To be precise, the official figures submitted to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) were 4,493 units. Chery Malaysia stated that out of those, around 3,700 units or 80% of the total sales last year are for the Chery Omoda 5 with the remaining numbers for the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

Chery Malaysia also revealed that January 2024 saw a new monthly sales record with 1,577 units sold. Again, the majority of sales which is 1,300 units were for the Omoda 5.

Between September 2023 and February 2024, a total of 5,800 Chery Omoda 5 have been sold in Malaysia. Meanwhile, around 1,200 units of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro were sold in the same period.

Though the Omoda 5 was launched in July 2023, Chery Malaysia took September figures as its starting point because CKD production and deliveries began ramping up from then.

Both the Chery Omoda 5 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro are locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim. Early batches of the Omoda E5 are fully imported (CBU) from China though Chery Malaysia mentioned that CKD units are planned to be introduced in Q2 2024.
